What is Kalingastone Engineered Quartz & how it is manufactured?

Kalingastone Engineered Quartz is manufactured using high grade Natural Quartz aggregates. Quartz aggregates and quartz filler are sieved & refined to manufacture Quartz Slabs using this Quartz aggregates & powder (90% - 92%), polyester resin (8 to 10%) and best quality pigments through a completely automated plant for precision in colour & design. These Quartz Slabs undergo a curing process for 24 hrs. The slabs are then calibrated & polished on a completely automated polishing line to deliver the final finished product.

Is Kalingastone Engineered Quartz artificial or synthetic?

The composition of Kalingastone Engineered Quartz :- Natural Quartz aggregates (90% - 92%), polyester resin (8 to 10%) and pigments. As such this material is technically natural material, which is mixed and compressed using state of art technology. Hence the term “Engineered Quartz” / “Reconstituted Quartz”.

Kalingastone Composite Quartz slab is available in 3 different sizes as under :

1) Standard slab size - 315 cm x 145 cm

For Flooring Should Kalingastone Engineered Quartz be installed using Adhesives or cement – mortar?

We recommend use of proper Adhesives only for installation of Kalingastone Engineered Quartz for all applications. However, it is strongly recommended to read the Installation guide to install Kalingastone Engineered Quartz correctly. Use of cement – mortar is not recommended for laying Quartz.

A. Kalingastone Engineered Quartz in lighter tones with a textured surface other than polished may be used for exterior wall cladding. The recommended installation guidelines for the same will be shared on request.

What is the recommended size for installing the Kalingastone Engineered Quartz series?

Depends on the area of installation. If for flooring, then it is recommended to use in small sizes. If for Wall Cladding, then full slabs can be cladded. For kitchen / island tops also full length can be used.

Can one use Honed Finish Kalingastone Engineered Quartz in flooring ?

Yes. It can be installed on the floor.

However, the installation must be done using grout as the surface should not be polished post installation to retain the finish on the surface of the Quartz.

Can one re-polish Kalingastone Engineered Quartz?

Kalingastone Engineered Quartz slabs come pre-polished as standard. But Kalingastone Quartz Slabs cannot be re-polished.

However, only the edges of cut to size quartz slab can be re-polished, if required, to get a desired finish.

Can one place hot utensils / vessels on Kalingastone Engineered Quartz surfaces?

We should avoid keeping hot vessels / utensils directly on Kalingastone Quartz kitchentop. Instead we should use Coasters.

Can one use acidic / alkaline cleaner for cleaning / maintenance of Kalingastone Engineered Quartz surface ?

We recommend to use neutral pH cleaners only. However, we recommend using ‘cif’ Cleaning Cream for general cleaning.

Can one allow plastic surface protection sheet as it is after installation of Kalingastone Engineered Quartz Slabs ?

We should remove plastic surface protection sheet from surface of Kalingastone Quartz slabs with few days after installation.

Plastic sheet is only for purpose of surface protection during handling.

What precaution should one take before cutting Kalingastone Engineered Quartz Slabs ?

Just check the shade of the different slabs before cutting. So, there is no batch variation.

What is Engineered Terrazzo & how it is manufactured?

Kalingastone Engineered Terrazzo is manufactured using high grade white and coloured marble lumps and marble aggregates selected from the best marble quarries. These lumps are crushed in different sizes and refined to manufacture blocks using this Marble powder (90% - 94%), polyester resin (5 to 8%) and best quality pigments through a completely automated plant for precision in colour & design. These Terrazzo blocks undergo a natural curing process for 7 days and are subsequently cut into slabs like natural marble. The slabs are then calibrated & polished on a completely automated polishing line from Simec – Italy to deliver the final finished product.

Is Kalingastone Engineered Terrazzo artificial or synthetic ?

The composition of Kalingastone Engineered Terrazzo is Marble Chips and Marble Powder (90% - 94%), polyester resin (5 to 8%) and pigments. As such this material is technically engineered natural material, which is reinforced and enhanced using state of art technology to eliminate the inconsistencies naturally found in stone. Hence, the term “Engineered Terrazzo” / “Reconstituted Terrazzo”.

Standard thickness for Kalingastone Engineered Terrazzo slabs for India is 18mm and 15mm. For European & USA Market, it is 20mm. Custom thickness range (15mm to 50mm) can be manufactured on request subject to conditions of MOQ.

Yes. It can be installed on the floor. However, the installation must be done using grout as the surface should not be polished post installation to retain the finish on the surface of the marble.

Yes. It can be installed on the floor. However, the installation must be done using grout as the surface should not be polished post installation to retain the finish on the surface of the marble

Is Kalingastone Engineered Terrazzo Re-Polishable?

Kalingastone Engineered Terrazzo slabs come pre-polished as standard. However, since it is homogenous body and properties are similar to natural marble, it can be re-polished when required. If installed properly as per the installation guide, then you can avoid cost of re-polishing of material.

WHAT IS ENGINEERED MARBLE & HOW IT IS MADE ?

Kalingastone Engineered Marble is made by using high grade white marble aggregrates / lumps from Vietnam white / Makrana white quarry and then crushing them in the required size particle and then a Engineered Marble Block is made by mixing this Marble powder ( 90 - 94%) and bounded with polyester resin (5 to 8% ) and imported Pigments for colour & design in a mixer and a whole marble block is made and created .

This Marble block after 7 days of natural curing is then cut into slabs under Gangsaw and then grinded / calibrated & polished on latest state of art Simec –Italy polishing line .

IS KALINGASTONE ENGINEERED MARBLE ARTIFICIAL OR SYNTHETIC ?

Kalingastone Engineered Marble is not Artificial or Synthetic Marble as it is made from 90-94% Natural Marble aggregates .

World over this product is known by different names such as Engineered Marble / Composite Marble / Agglomerated Marble / Re-constituted Marble .

What is minimum and maximum size of a Kalingastone Marble Slab ?

Kalingastone Marble slab is of a standard size of 304 cm x 125 cm .

Q.4

What are the various thickness available in Kalingastone Engineered Marble slabs ?

The standard thickness available in the Domestic market are 18 mm / 15 mm. However, 20mm / 12mm can also be supplied on specific requirements and order.

Since this is a block technology, we can cut the block and supply any thickness from minimum 12 mm to maximum 50 mm depending upon the client’s specific requirements.

What are the different application areas, where Kalingastone Engineered Marble can be used ?

Kalingastone Engineered Marble can be used on flooring, wall cladding, bathrooms, staircase, Lift Lobbies, Vanity counters, Table tops, Window Sills, Door Jamb etc.

Can Kalingastone Engineered Marble be used in Residence, Commercial, High Traffic area for flooring , wall cladding and other applications ?

Yes, Kalingastone Engineered Marble can be used for Residence projects , Commercial projects, Hospitals, Education Institutes, Shopping Mall, Airports, Metro station etc . It is suitable product for flooring for High Traffic area like Shopping Malls / Airports etc.

Can we use Kalingastone Engineered Marble for kitchen countertops?

No, we do not recommend Kalingastone Engineered Marble for kitchen counter tops, but we recommend the usage of only Kalingastone Engineered Quartz for kitchen countertops.

Q.8

Can one use Kalingastone Engineered Marble in Exterior Wall Cladding ?

We recommend the usage of Kalingastone Engineered Marble in lighter shades only along with a finish on the surface like leather or distress finish. Most importantly with correct installation techniques followed.

Q.9

Can one install Kalingastone Engineered Marble just like natural marble with seamless joints?

The international installation guidelines recommend a minimum 3-5 mm grout after each tile and an expansion joint of 6 - 8 mm after every 5 metres. However, we can install Kalingastone Engineered Marble with seamless joint, but we have to take some precautions e.g. :

(a) Provision of 10 mm gap below skirting and to insert a suitable backer rod to accommodate thermal expansion of the product.

(b) For seamless joints we recommend to fill matching epoxy (Transparent Resin + Matching Pigment i.e. marble powder + Hardener).

In seamless joint concept, to make the levels meet, the flooring may be required to be re-polished.

In large area like shopping mall flooring or big Hall etc, an expansion joint of 6 - 8 mm is recommended after every 5 metres.

Can one lay Kalingastone Engineered Marble with full slab size in flooring ?

We do not recommend laying full size slab on the floor. We recommend ideal sizes like 60 cm x 60 cm / 60 cm x 120 cm / 100 cm x 120 cm to get optimum recovery from the slab.

Q.11

Can Kalingastone Engineered Marble be installed on flooring with Adhesive or with cement – sand ?

We recommend to use proper Adhesive for installation of Kalingastone Engineered Marble for flooring.

However, for interior flooring , you can also adopt cement – sand system for installation with proper expansion joints below the skirting with backer rod and also expansion joints every 5 metres in large expanse flooring.

Q.12

Can one use Kalingastone Engineered Marble in a large area of mega mall etc. ?

Yes, you can install our Kalingastone Engineered Marble in a large expanse, but apart from provision of prescribed gap of 10 mm below skirting, you are required to have a provision of expansion joint of 6 - 8 mm width at every 5 metres, in which you will provide a suitable backer rod and Silicone Sealant to accommodate thermal expansion of product.

Can one use Honed / Leather finish Kalingastone Engineered Marble in flooring ?

Yes, but care should be taken that there must not be any undulations at joints. Instead a provision of 2-3 mm joint width may be recommended to overcome this particular problem which may likely to occur.

Q.14

Can one use polished marble and a different finish marble in combination in flooring ?

It can be used, but it will create a challenge whenever the marble flooring needs to be re-polished.

Hence, we recommend one type of finish (either polished or a different finish) should be used in flooring, because after certain period, the flooring may have to be polished, but it wouldn't be possible to do so.

Q.15

Can one use Kalingastone Engineered Marble and Quartz stone in combination in flooring.

It is not advisable to lay Kalingastone Engineered Marble and Kalingatsone Engineered Quartz in combination in flooring, because the quartz stone is not re-polishable.

Can Kalingastone Engineered Marble be used in Bathroom flooring ?

Kalingastone Engineered Marble can be used in the bathroom, but care has to be taken that no acidic cleaner etc. should be used on it / or clean it . We recommend to use neutral pH cleaner for cleaning and maintaining the marble.

As Kalingastone Marble comes as a pre-polished slab, does it need to be re-polished after laying the marble slab?

If Kalingastone Engineered Marble is installed with proper grout between every tile and if while laying itself, we recommend :

(a) To remove excessive white cement mortar / Excessive Adhesive paste,

(b) To remove lamination plastic film next day of laying and

(c) To properly cover the flooring with thick PVC protection sheet , while other agencies are working on site, then you can avoid re-polishing.

However, if you have installed with seamless joints and if the flooring is not protected properly, while other agencies are working, you may require to repolish the marble.

How does one install Kalingastone Engineered Marble on Plywood / Bison Panel in wall cladding ?
